Plants of (left to right) Escallonia Pink Spires, Escallonia White Spires, and Escallonia Good as Gold waiting to depart for the Kernock Park Plants stand at the Four Oaks Trade Show next week.

Outstanding selections from the venerable Peter Moore – plant breeder, plantsman, nurseryman, curator of the Plant Heritage National Collection of Buddleja, and all-round good egg!

‘Pink Spires’ and ‘White Spires’ especially have ‘inspired’ a resurgence of my love affair for this fabulous evergreen genus. Meanwhile, ‘Good as Gode’, as she is pronounced in Cornwall, is a bright and charming upright cracker in her own regard.

Thanks to Peter for his dedicated hard work. Come and see us at the FOTS to caress these glossy beauties and get your orders in for plug supply in peat-free media in 2026.

I Replied

Thanks, Bob, great publicity. All 3 have enjoyed
This summer weather also came through the last cold winter without damage . Escallonia; Pink Spires’ grows like Escallonia iveyi but with large pink flowers
Escallonia ‘White Spires’ is very erect, with small leaves
with masses of white flowers, late spring, early summer, both loved by bees
And Escallonia Good as Gold is totally different
to any other ‘Gold’ Escallonia
Tiny leaves, slow-growing, does not burn
Masses of small pink flowers would make a low hedge
